Multiple intelligences
Have you
ever heard the assumption “He is intelligent, she isn’t intelligent”? Must a
person be intelligent or not being it? The answer to the question “are you
intelligent” must be “yes” or “not”, what about being intelligent in some
skills but not in others? ๐๐ณ
Howard
Gardner has identified seven intelligences. This theory has emerged from recent
cognitive research and affirms that people have different kinds of minds, so
people learn and perform in different ways. Gardner (1991) assumes that "we
are all able to know the world through language, logical-mathematical analysis,
spatial representation, musical thinking, the use of the body to solve problems
or to make things, an understanding of other individuals, and an understanding
of ourselves. Where individuals differ is in the strength of these
intelligences - the so-called profile of intelligences -and in the ways in
which such intelligences are invoked and combined to carry out different tasks,
solve diverse problems, and progress in various domains."
In the following
picture, you can observe the different kinds of intelligences:
What is the meaning of these intelligences? ๐ช๐
-Visual- spatial: related to the physical space, people who has developed this intelligence
is good at graphics, charts, drawing, puzzles…
-Bodily-kinesthetic:
ability to use the body effectively, people with this intelligence can dance
and communicate well through body language. They like movement.
-Musical: related
to sensitivity to rhythm and sound. Musical people study better with music,
they can learn through songs and can play musical instruments better.
-Interpersonal:
related to social relations. People with this intelligence have many friends,
empathy, like group activities, seminars and debates.
-Intrapersonal:
related to one’s own interests and objectives. They know themselves well, they
have intuition and motivations.
-Linguistic:
ability to use the words effectively, people who have this intelligence have
highly developed auditory skills. They love reading, creating stories, etc.
-Logical –
mathematical: related to calculating and reasoning. People with this intelligence
are able to think abstractly and conceptually, they like to experiment.
-Naturalistic: related to nature, seeing patterns in the way nature works, classifying things.
As a result of this theory, several test have been created in order to assess people's strenghts so they can find the intelligences they have developed the most. In the following link you can find yours:

My results are the following, and what about you? Comment your results! ๐๐ญ
Your top three intelligences:
| Intelligence | Score (5.0 is highest) | Description |
Social: You like to develop ideas and learn from other people. You like to talk. You have good social skills. Effective techniques of enhancing your learning using your social intelligence include taking part in group discussions or discussing a topic one-to-one with another person.
| ||
Spatial: You remember things visually, including exact sizes and shapes of objects. You like posters, charts, and graphics. You like any kind of visual clues. You enjoy drawing. Effective techniques of enhancing your learning using your spatial intelligence include creating and/or using pictures, maps, diagrams, and graphs as you learn things.
| ||
Body Movement: You like to move, dance, wiggle, walk, and swim. You are likely good at sports, and you have good fine motor skills. You may enjoy taking things apart and putting them back together. Incorporating body movement into your learning will help you process and retain information better.
