Scaffolding? Differentiation?
As teachers,
we must know some concepts regarding methodologies and today I bring you two of
them: SCAFFOLDING AND DIFFERENTIATION.
When we talk about scaffolding and differentiation, we are referring to
learning strategies, both are quite similar but are not synonymous. Here, I leave you a video 📹 to understand these strategies:
To sum up, we can say that differentiation method caters to each student's individual needs and learning methods, while scaffolding is about providing structures that clarify learning objectives throught the course of large projects, it provides support for boarder educational goals and class-wide instruction to reduce students' anxiety when accomplishing tasks. ✅
💪 Some examples of activities using both strategies: 💭
- Scaffolding 💁👬👭: with a reading, students preview the text and, with the teacher, they discuss key vocabulary, then they read as the teacher goes. The following assignment is explained step by step with some examples as the students have the instructions clear. 👍
- Differentiation 💁👧💬: the teacher gives a child an entirely different piece of text to read, she modifies the writing assignment that follows to adapt it to the individual child.
